December 2014

We have spent a night in the Ash House Hotel during our starling watch/Bath visit weekend.
The dining room is in the conservatory with a lovely view to the garden.
The room, the food and the staff were excellent - highly recommended!

December 2014

I attended the above on 27th December 2014. Everything involved was first class, I cannot find fault in any part of the function. The owner Gordon and his staff made everybody welcome and feel "at home" and provided an ideal ambiance for a very emotional, happy, event.

I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and its staff.

November 2014

As I drove up to Ash House I could not hide my pleasure as I took in the pristine and traditional exterior of the hotel and garden. And it did not end there.....the welcoming reception and relaxing snug bar just added to the warm ambiance of this beautifully presented hotel. The room was clean, light and roomy and the bed and linen made me feel like I was staying in a luxurious hotel that you would find in any of the big cities. The staff were very friendly and helpful as was the owner Gordon. I loved the cooked breakfast and Stornaway black pudding and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a break away from the routine. Thank you Gordon and Ash House for a truly memorable stay.

November 2014

We needed to get out of the city and enjoy fresh air, beautiful scenery and ideally stay at a comfortable hotel as a base. As it turns out, we have, more through luck than planning, landed at that Ash House hotel just off the A303 in a quiet hamlet north of Yeovil. From the moment you crunch up the drive and enter the flagstone paved entrance you can forget your stresses because my friend, you are in for a treat. The staff are fantastically welcoming without being in your face, the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated and the whole is a Queen Anne house set in pretty grounds. We feel completely at home. On our first night we walked 20mins to Martock, a very picturesque tiny town where we bought a Chinese takeaway. On our return the duty manager at the hotel offered us plates and cutlery so we could eat it in our room, not in the least phased by our treachery. However , had we known how fantastic the food was in the hotel we so wouldn't have bothered with the third rate takeout. Seriously, we have just eaten the best steaks and chips we have ever had anywhere. The food is absolutely of the best five star quality, and reason enough for us to return soon, even if it wasn't all so quietly lovely, which it is. Please come to this hotel, honestly do yourselves a massive favour, just come for dinner even, you wont regret it, promise.

November 2014

My husband chose The Ash House & am I glad he did. What a fantastic weekend me my husband & two friend's had. The owner & all his staff were so welcoming & friendly. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms were lovely. Beds so comfortable unlimited tea coffee biscuits etc. We decided to eat at the hotel for our anniversary & we were not disappointed at all. The food was excellent !!! & so beautifully presented we would all recommend anyone to eat there even if you were not staying. The breakfasts were again excellent quality and you could choose whatever you wanted. The whole weekend was just brilliant thank you ash house.

October 2014

As always, we just love going to this hotel. It's really like staying in a private house. it is a super country house hotel and each time we go there, we are sure of a warm welcome from Gordon and his staff. We go out and about to the surrounding towns and sights but always come back for our evening meal, as the chef is fabulous.

August 2014

Stayed overnight on route to the West Country. Warm friendly welcome. Very comfortable bed in a spacious room with everything you could need for a stop over, or longer. The food in the restaurant was amazing, the best we have had in a very long time all served by polite and efficient staff.
We shall definitely visit again.

June 2014

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for a great stay at Ash House, we all really enjoyed it and as usual the food was superb. Don't know if you watch "Four in a Bed" on Channel Four but we would have to have given you all 10's. Maybe an 11 for breakfast.

I would also like to ask about the pilllows you use on the beds which gave us the best nights sleep in months. What are they and where do you get them?

May 2014

Staying for a couple if nights as I'm taking part in the Tour of Wessex. Excellent relaxed but so attentive. Lovely food and nice rooms. Highly recommend if your travelling around the County or passing through. Not over expensive either.....

May 2014

We stayed for the second time at this hotel to calibrate a major birthday two nights dinner bed and breakfast, a very nice time was had , excellent food, cooked just right. A very good clean room, and happy staff. Thank you.

April 2014

We spent the weekend here while visiting our son who lives and works close by.

The welcome on arrival from the staff was fantastic and after being shown to our room we were invited to book a table in the restaurant for that night which was a smart move as the meal was gorgeous and great value, a few drinks in the bar after dinner and then off to bed .

The bedroom was quiet the bed was very comfortable and the in-room tea and coffee making facility's were welcome, there is a fridge outside the rooms which has a supply of fresh milk and snacks.

Breakfast taken in the Orangery over looking the fantastic calming garden had plenty of choice and the full English breakfast was beautifully cooked

Thank's Gordon for a relaxing weekend we will be back!

April 2014

Once again Gordon and all his staff made feel welcome, this is our 7th stay and from the very first time we have always been looked after to a very high standard.
We have already booked for another stay in April.

March 2014

My wife and I travelled as a couple and stayed for two nights. We used Ash House as a base for our walking trips (of which there are many that start and finish within a 5 mile or so radius of the hotel).

We had a perfect stay and can't think of a single thing that would have made it better than it was. All the staff (sorry, we don't recall your names!) were extremely friendly, attentive, accommodating and professional.

We ate in the restaurant on our first evening and had beautiful, delicious food and a good bottle of wine. Of course, we're sure that you could 'go cheaper' in a local pub but this was definitely worth it and actually not that expensive all things considered. The ambience in the dining room and the drawing room/ bar area was lovely with an open fire, nice music and books to browse. Breakfast in the conservatory was also very good; again, the food and ambience were great and when my wife was keen not to get up early for breakfast they offered us a slightly later starting time!

We had a room overlooking the garden. It was quiet, reasonably sized, very clean and had all the facilities we needed. The bed was comfortable and very conducive to a good night's sleep.

Thank you Ash House. We really appreciated the attention to detail in all aspects of our experience. We would stay again and would definitely recommend you.

March 2014

Arrived at Ash Hotel to be welcomed by an extremely hospitable Gordon and staff. Staying here due to business in Yeovil that is literally 10 minutes away. After a long journey instantly relaxed in this beautiful oasis.
We are booking a series of business conferences here due to such a prestigious location and fantastic amenities. The food here is truly wonderful there is nothing that I can fault and would highly recommend for businesses and individuals I will be coming back with my husband when we visit the fleet museum.

Feb 2014

Spent two nights at this lovely country house.A beautiful place, lovingly restored, clean and attention to detail.Every thing was first class. Gordon and his staff, couldnt do enough to make our stay more pleasent.
A quiet retreat and very relaxing.
Would definately recommend a stay here.

Oct 2012
3 day stay for a family wedding nearby. Of highest compliment was the excellent service and hospitality from the owner Gordon down to the service staff, with special kudos to Joe and Chris for friendly always smiling help! Beautiful Georgian mansion, 9 bedrooms, all very high standard. Stayed in Russet room, top floor. LARGE room, sitting area, large flat screen, wood beamed room ( mind your head!), full ensuite bath with power shower, plenty of hot water. Beautiful glassed in conservatory for breakfast or other meals with lovely garden views - breakfast menu did not change, but offered buffet cereals, porridge, fruit, home baked croissants, juices, French press coffee, tea, then a hot breakfast with base of full English breakfast, but accomodating to any hot variations thereof. Had only one lunch at the restaurant, which was superb salmon, high standard and presentation. Wish I had a chance to dine there at night.Nice drawing room/salon with snug fully equipped bar, well priced in my opinion.Plenty of on site parking.Easy to locate, quick access to A303.Local area filled with lovely English countryside villages, crafts, and very narrow small roads with high hedges! Would definitely return as first choice on my next visit - hopefully very very soon!
October 2012
I've been meaning to drop a post on this hotel for some months.

My mother-in-law held her 90th birthday party at the hotel and we had a fantastic day. The hotel helped organise the occasion and the proprietor, Gordon, and his staff provided exceptional service - friendly and welcoming. All our guests (30 plus) had a most enjoyable time and the food was excellent.

We also stayed overnight with friends. The accommodation was clean and tidy with views across the delightful garden (with roaming chickens). The rooms were certainly of a far superior standard to other hotels we have stayed at in the area.

We will be returning at some point soon and can certainly highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the South Somerset area.

"Brilliant UK county house stay!"
3 day visit for family wedding. Brilliant Georgian mansion, so peaceful, with rooms of very high standard, lovely conservatory with excellent breakfast, snug bar in salon/drawing room, surprisingly very high quality restaurant meal for this locale. Of highest praise is the care and service, from owner Gordon down to staff, singling out Joe and Chris for friendly and accomodating service. Location is superb, easy access off the A303. Wonderful local area with loads of character. Return soon? Yes!
Hospitality and Service tops list. Superb conservatory with excellent breakfast. Nice bar/salon. Bedrooms of high quality and standard - loved the Russet room at the top of the house.

The staff were very helpful. Lovely quite location, good size rooms. The bar was very welcoming and the food, evening meal, was exceptionally good and very reasonably priced. The beds and bed linen were of a very high quality. I spend a reasonable amount of time through work staying in five star hotels and I would rank Ash Country House Hotel right up there with the best. We will definitely use it again.

August 2012

Stayed here again on our way through to Devon, but will be returning shortly for longer. House and grounds are very special and everything about this hotel is just wonderful, from the friendly greeting (usually by the owner) to the lovely calming rooms and the oh so comfy beds. The food must be tasted to be believed, fresh (much straight from the garden) cooked to perfection and beautifully presented by truly friendly staff who seem genuinely to want to make your stay as pleasant as possible. A big thank you to them for, once again, making our trip so memorable. Can't wait to return.

August 18th 2012

Just returned from weekend break. Very relaxing, rooms lovely and food excellent. Gardens a delight to sit in. We had to take our dog with us - no problem very welcome to stay. Staff very helpful and friendly. If you are looking for a relaxing break just book you will have a great time!

August 2012

Excellent stays in the Ambrosia Superior room and Crispin Room. It was really lovely being able to have a drink in the bar in a relaxed atmosphere too. Being Brits but currently living in the USA we truly appreciated the British feel of the place, polite, calm and efficient. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was lovely in the conservatory too. Thank you - will definitely consider staying when in the area again.

We counldn't have been happier with our experience at ash House Hotel.  Our wedding went so perfectly, the staff's costomer service standard was second to none and Gordon ensured that every detail was taken care of.

Our family and guests were looked after and the venue was flexible and helpful with arrangements.

The food was excellent and beautifully served.  Gordon and his team must have been worked so hard and yet made it look so easy.  We were made to feel like royalty.  The hotel was stunning and romantic, we loved it.

Thank you so much Gordon and his team.

Mr and Mrs Collins, July 2012

Lovely hotel with great staff who have a genuine interest in making sure your stay is a good one. The building and grounds are gorgeous. Breakfast in the conservatory is a great start to the day. Rooms are large and comfortable, and the hotel bar is snug. We would certainly return to stay here.

June 2012

Hi Gordon

We just wanted to thank you and your staff for all of your help in
making our reception so enjoyable.  We had a fabulous time and couldn't
have asked for a better setting.  The food was excellent and the
atmosphere was fantastic.  We really appreciate all the time and effort
you took to make our day so special.

Thank you again

The Ash Hotel has become a home away from home as we make regular visits to the area to visit our daughter at a nearby boarding school. The Alderman and Ambroisia rooms are extremely comfortable, fairly priced and spacious enough. Indeed they are a perfect combination for a traveling family of 4. Food is always nice, but our favorite meal is the breakfast, itself a simple but tasty affair. Staff are always helpful and friendly, whilst the gardens offer a pleasant place for a drink or even a meal, if the sun is shinning. Overall, a perfect stop for those finishing a multi hour drive!

May 2012

We stayed here for a wedding. Lovely rooms with comfy beds and well appointed bathrooms. Very hospital, friendly staff providing good service that was not at all intrusive. Lovely gardens and peaceful location. It was lovely to return to Somerset after 40 years - beautiful as ever!

  • Stayed October 2011, travelled with family

We visited Ash House Hotel again at the beginning of November this year. It was like going home. The house and staff make you feel that you are part of a private house party. As before, the room was excellent - their beds are truly comfortable - and the food and atmosphere are wonderful. We visited the local towns that we hadn't seen before and paddled around in the mist and rain looking forward to returning to the hotel to be greeted with a roaring log fire in the bar, a nice warm bedroom and a long hot bath! We hope to go again early next year and continue our excursions around Somerset and Dorset.

Room Tip: There are only 10 rooms (all named after apples!). We have only stayed in twin-bedded rooms and both have been very good. As it is situated in the country, there is very little noise.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Ash House Hotel for two nights. I was greeted with a warm welcome by Gordon the owner and Manger. My room was clean and well equipped the little touches of a jug of fresh milk and high quality tea and coffee were much appreciated. Situated in the quiet village of Ash, within substantial and impressive grounds, it is an easy 10 minuet drive to the centre of Yeovil. I never had the opportunity to try the restaurant but my fellow guests were very keen to tell me at breakfast what a treat I had missed. If the breakfast was an example of the Chef’s skill then I have no reason to doubt them. The ever friendly and immaculately turned out staff were a credit to the high standards that Gordon has set for his newly acquired and flourishing hotel. I am also reliably informed that there is a very good village pub within walking distance the hotel, I look forward to returning.

A perfect find. This small Country House Hotel just set back from the main street is just perfect, a friendly greeting when you walk through the door, wonderful cosy bedroom with super comfy bed, large fluffy towels in the bathroom.
Small cosy bar with log fire and excellant selection of wines, great food and most of all dogs are welcome.

Thank you, to all the wonderful staff at Ash House,
My names katie Pritchard and I stayed at your hotel for the wedding of my sister, Stephanie Tucker to Paul Crick. I wanted to email you and express massive gratitude to Gordon and all your wonderful staff that helped both myself and my family decorate your beautiful conservatory and ceremony room to make the day so special for my sister.
Your hotel is absolutely stunning, such a lovely setting, an exceptionally clean and very friendly atmosphere and beautiful gardens and accommodation! I would recommend it to anyone without reservation. Without your helpfulness I don't think we could have achieved the result we did. Please feel free to publish this email in your guest book as I have nothing but praise for you and your hotel!

Martin Russell:

"I have been staying at Ash House Hotel each year for one night for the last ten years in connection with a business investment in the area. I was unaware that the hotel has recently been taken under new ownership and was delighted by the changes when I stayed there this month (April 2010).

I travel very regularly around the world and have stayed in many top class hotels in Europe, North America and the Far East. Imagine my surprise when the breakfast I received was undoubtedly the best ever! It was beautifully cooked and presented, and contained a favourite, Stornoway Black Pudding. The coffee was also excellent.

I also stayed for lunch the following day and the menu and standard of cooking was truly inspirational using local produce where possible.

The new owner, a very cheerful and engaging Scotsman, is called Gordon Doodson who has done wonders to the hotel in the first eight weeks. Already some well needed improvements have been made to the bedrooms with lovely new linen and fluffy towels with high quality soap and shampoo etc. I have every confidence that the hotel will be totally transformed over the next six months.

For anyone looking to stay in the Martock/Somerset area, this hotel is a little gem that should be supported. Its prices are very reasonable and represent astounding value for money.

Martin Russell" March 2010

Mr and Mrs Whiting:

"We wish to thank you for providing a lovely setting and a most enjoyable meal for our Golden Wedding Anniversary.  All our guests, without exception, were truly impressed with the service, the meal and the very friendly atmosphere.

We could not have wished for more than you did for us.

From the chat that ensued at home, after lunch, we are sure that you will have a very successful business in Ash. Everyone was most impressed.  Please also thank Michael for providing such a lovely meal which was most appetising and appreciated by everyone.  Bearing in mind the very short time you had to prepare for our event, since acquiring Ash House Hotel, you, and all of your staff are to be congratulated.

We are indeed fortunate that we chose Ash House and that you became the owner in time for our celebration.

We wish you every good fortune in your enterpise.

Your sincerely

Mr and Mrs Whiting" April 2010

Malcolm Hough:

"The recent travel upheavel ment that our holiday abroad was not to be! To cheer ourselves up we decided on a few days in Somerset, and by chance decided on the Ash House Hotel.

It was a great decision, providing us with 2 days of rest and relaxation n a beautiful setting, with great food (locally sourced),with a special mention of the superb cheese and biscuits and the oxe cheeks, a meal I would love the recipe too.Very comfortable accomadation and extremely friendly staff.

The new owner Gordon Doodson appears to have achieved a great deal since taking over earlier in the year. His enthusiasm and vision for the hotel are shared by his staff resulting in a very enjoyable stay in very pleasant surroundings.

We hope to stay there again in the near future and look forward to another great experience.

Malcolm Hough" April 2010

Ash House does everything well but the service, food and comfort of the beds have to be singled out for special mention. It's also really nice to go somewhere that really has good wifi coverage.

Sept 10

Stayed one night for a reunion. Welcome was excellent service was very personal Room was very clean and bright with a very comfortable bed and superior bed linen. Bathroom had a bath and a surprisingly powerful shower. Tea and coffee in the room were excellent with a jug of real milk and more available in a fridge in the corridor. The garden was lovely with nice furniture and gave the impression of being secluded although it was so near the road. Hotel was very much a country house and had a lovely atmosphere. Could not recommend it highly enough. Sept 10

Stayed here last minute as all other hotels in area were booked up - can't believe this one had a spare room-thankfully it did and I had a wonderful time!
Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, I was shown to my room with a jug of FRESH milk with more available in the fridge outside my room - no UHT here!
Room was clean, bed was so comfortable I could have stayed in it all day!
Lovely setting and the food was all locally sourced and tasted fantastic and very reasonable!
Definately will be staying here on my next visit to the area.....Sept 10
