Ash House Hotel Somerset

Built approximately 300 years ago, this spacious
and gracious building has been carefully restored
over the last few years to provide elegant and
comfortable accommodation. It offers modern
facilities whilst maintaining the character of the
Georgian family house it used to be.

Ash House Country Hotel

What you say about us:

We stayed here for a wedding. Lovely rooms with comfy beds and well appointed bathrooms. Very hospital, friendly staff providing good service that was not at all intrusive. Lovely gardens and peaceful location. It was lovely to return to Somerset after 40 years - beautiful as ever!

We visited Ash House Hotel again at the beginning of November this year. It was like going home. The house and staff make you feel that you are part of a private house party. As before, the room was excellent - their beds are truly comfortable - and the food and atmosphere are wonderful. We visited the local towns that we hadn't seen before and paddled around in the mist and rain looking forward to returning to the hotel to be greeted with a roaring log fire in the bar, a nice warm bedroom and a long hot bath! We hope to go again early next year and continue our excursions around Somerset and Dorset.

Room Tip: There are only 10 rooms (all named after apples!). We have only stayed in twin-bedded rooms and both have been very good. As it is situated in the country, there is very little noise.

Had an excellent weekend visit to Somerton with a truly delightful stay in the Ash House Hotel a 5 minute drive away in Ash
Service was first rate and most friendly and helpful
Gordon was most accomodating and patiently helpful with all our questions and enquiries
Room was nice with an excellent en suite and travel cot for our baby was provided as promised
We had dinner in the orangery which was absolutely superb within a beautiful setting
An after-dinner drink in the snug bar was also enjoyable
Our breakfast the next day was also first rate
Would definetly use this hotel again when visiting area and would thoroughly recommend it for a very relaxing time away

I had the pleasure of staying at the Ash House Hotel for two nights. I was greeted with a warm welcome by Gordon the owner and Manger. My room was clean and well equipped the little touches of a jug of fresh milk and high quality tea and coffee were much appreciated. Situated in the quiet village of Ash, within substantial and impressive grounds, it is an easy 10 minuet drive to the centre of Yeovil. I never had the opportunity to try the restaurant but my fellow guests were very keen to tell me at breakfast what a treat I had missed. If the breakfast was an example of the Chef’s skill then I have no reason to doubt them. The ever friendly and immaculately turned out staff were a credit to the high standards that Gordon has set for his newly acquired and flourishing hotel. I am also reliably informed that there is a very good village pub within walking distance the hotel, I look forward to returning.

Katie Pritchard

Thank you, to all the wonderful staff at Ash House,
My names katie Pritchard and I stayed at your hotel for the wedding of my sister, Stephanie Tucker to Paul Crick. I wanted to email you and express massive gratitude to Gordon and all your wonderful staff that helped both myself and my family decorate your beautiful conservatory and ceremony room to make the day so special for my sister.
Your hotel is absolutely stunning, such a lovely setting, an exceptionally clean and very friendly atmosphere and beautiful gardens and accommodation! I would recommend it to anyone without reservation. Without your helpfulness I don't think we could have achieved the result we did. Please feel free to publish this email in your guest book as I have nothing but praise for you and your hotel!
Many thanks again   Katie Pritchard  May 2010

Martin Russell:

"I have been staying at Ash House Hotel each year for one night for the last ten years in connection with a business investment in the area. I was unaware that the hotel has recently been taken under new ownership and was delighted by the changes when I stayed there this month (April 2010).

I travel very regularly around the world and have stayed in many top class hotels in Europe, North America and the Far East. Imagine my surprise when the breakfast I received was undoubtedly the best ever! It was beautifully cooked and presented, and contained a favourite, Stornoway Black Pudding. The coffee was also excellent.

I also stayed for lunch the following day and the menu and standard of cooking was truly inspirational using local produce where possible.

The new owner, a very cheerful and engaging Scotsman, is called Gordon Doodson who has done wonders to the hotel in the first eight weeks. Already some well needed improvements have been made to the bedrooms with lovely new linen and fluffy towels with high quality soap and shampoo etc. I have every confidence that the hotel will be totally transformed over the next six months.

For anyone looking to stay in the Martock/Somerset area, this hotel is a little gem that should be supported. Its prices are very reasonable and represent astounding value for money.

Mr and Mrs Whiting:

"We wish to thank you for providing a lovely setting and a most enjoyable meal for our Golden Wedding Anniversary.  All our guests, without exception, were truly impressed with the service, the meal and the very friendly atmosphere.

We could not have wished for more than you did for us.

From the chat that ensued at home, after lunch, we are sure that you will have a very successful business in Ash. Everyone was most impressed.  Please also thank Michael for providing such a lovely meal which was most appetising and appreciated by everyone.  Bearing in mind the very short time you had to prepare for our event, since acquiring Ash House Hotel, you, and all of your staff are to be congratulated.

We are indeed fortunate that we chose Ash House and that you became the owner in time for our celebration.

We wish you every good fortune in your enterpise.

Your sincerely

Mr and Mrs Whiting" April 2010

Malcolm Hough:

"The recent travel upheavel ment that our holiday abroad was not to be! To cheer ourselves up we decided on a few days in Somerset, and by chance decided on the Ash House Hotel.

It was a great decision, providing us with 2 days of rest and relaxation n a beautiful setting, with great food (locally sourced),with a special mention of the superb cheese and biscuits and the oxe cheeks, a meal I would love the recipe too.Very comfortable accomadation and extremely friendly staff.

The new owner Gordon Doodson appears to have achieved a great deal since taking over earlier in the year. His enthusiasm and vision for the hotel are shared by his staff resulting in a very enjoyable stay in very pleasant surroundings.

We hope to stay there again in the near future and look forward to another great experience.

Malcolm Hough" April 2010

Ash House does everything well but the service, food and comfort of the beds have to be singled out for special mention. It's also really nice to go somewhere that really has good wifi coverage.

Stayed one night for a reunion. Welcome was excellent service was very personal Room was very clean and bright with a very comfortable bed and superior bed linen. Bathroom had a bath and a surprisingly powerful shower. Tea and coffee in the room were excellent with a jug of real milk and more available in a fridge in the corridor. The garden was lovely with nice furniture and gave the impression of being secluded although it was so near the road. Hotel was very much a country house and had a lovely atmosphere. Could not recommend it highly enough. Sept 10
